Stamps-Handicrafts of people with Special Needs (2004)

Distinctive creativity comes from a strong will and determination to achieve success against all odds. The latent energy and capabilities of people with special needs are often demonstrated through their participation in various social activities. Just like able-bodied persons, the people with special needs can learn, train, work and get married. This helps them integrate with the rest of society and contribute to the social and economic development of the country.

Emirates Post has been making earnest efforts to support people with special needs by highlighting their creativity through the products they produce. As part of this activity, Emirates Post had organized a handicraft contest in coordination with various institutions for special needs in the UAE from April 1 to 30, 2004.

To recognize the gifted winners and highlight their creative work, Emirates Post has issued a set of commemorative stamps in 4 denominations based on the winning entries.

• 50 Fils (handcrafted vase)
  This beautiful handcrafted vase was done by Aisha Hassan Mohammed, a six-year-old girl from Sharjah Autism Centre, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services.
• 125 Fils (Painting)
  A wonderful painting by Bardees Abdul Munem, a 7-year-old girl from Sharjah Autism Centre, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services.
• 275 Fils (framed handicraft)
  An exquisite handicraft created by Moza Soud Khalfan, a 20-year-old girl and Maryam Ali Humaid, a 23-year-old girl from Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, Middle Area Branch, Al Dhaid.
• 5 Dhs. (Pottery artwork featuring the Al Falaq Sura)
  Abdul Rasheed Hafez Abdul Hakeem, a 19-year-old boy from Vocational Rehabilitation Section/ Pottery Workshop, Sharjah City for Humanitarian Services, created a pottery work highlighting the Al Falaq (The Daybreak) Sura.
