Description
Hili Archaeological Park
7X, in collaboration with the Department of Culture and Tourism in Abu Dhabi, has issued special commemorative stamps featuring Hili Archaeological Park, as part of launching a series of stamps honouring the United Arab Emirate’s archaeological sites.
Hili Archaeological Park is one of UNESCO’s World Heritage sites in the Al Ain region and is a place of exceptional value internationally.
Archaeology offers insights into the settlers of the land and their transition from being hunters to forming sedentary societies. Dating as far back as the third millennium BC; prehistory is evidenced in the Bronze Age buildings and carved stone tombs of ‘Umm al Nar’. ‘Falaj’ irrigation systems were subsequently built in the first millennium BC during the Iron Age, demonstrating the efficient management of water and the progress of agriculture.
Similarly, with respect to the sustained development of economic and domestic means, it is understood that the settlement shared trade routes with Mesopotamia and the Indus valley. The foundations for the region’s architecture, furthermore, are believed to have originated here.
In this regard, Hili Archaeological Park represents a place of interest for anyone who wishes to explore the evidence of a civilisation dating back to prehistoric times and learn about the ancient people and their association with the land.
