Description

150Years of the UPU
150years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations

In 2024, the Universal Postal Union (UPU) celebrates its 150th anniversary, after a century and a half since representatives from 22 countries gathered to sign the Treaty of Bern, creating the General Postal Union on October 9,1874, to be later named as the Universal Postal Union. As a United Nations specialized agency dedicated to regulating international postal policies and services, the UPU continues its efforts to unite postal networks of 192 member countries, having realised its founders’ vision of establishing a single postal territory to serve communities everywhere.

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) joined the UPU in 1973, represented by 7X, previously known as Emirates Post Group. Over the years, the UAE has consistently supported various UPU activities and initiatives aimed at fostering cooperation and innovation, supporting environmental, economic, and social development in the global logistics sector.

In line with UPU’s theme for its 150th year, “150 years of enabling communication and empowering peoples across nations,” we are releasing a commemorative stamp titled ‘150 years of the UPU.’ The stamp celebrates the remarkable milestones and significant accomplishments that have bolstered and enriched the global postal sector.
