Description

80Years of the United Nations
Emirates Post celebrates the 80th anniversary of the United Nations (UN) with a commemorative stamp that honours eight decades of multilateral action in pursuit of peace, prosperity and human rights.
Born from the devastation of the Second World War, the UN Charter entered into force on 24 October 1945, uniting nations behind a shared resolve “to save succeeding generations from the scourge of war.” Today, with 193 member states, the Organisation remains the world’s indispensable forum for dialogue, diplomacy and collective problem-solving.
Since joining the UN on 9 December 1971, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been an active partner in advancing the Charter’s principles, championing humanitarian aid, climate action and sustainable development while serving on the Security Council and other key bodies.
Across its eight-decade journey, the United Nations has:
– Prevented a global conflict by fostering negotiation over confrontation.
– Raised living standards through coordinated efforts to reduce poverty, hunger and disease.
– Codified international law, strengthening justice and accountability.
– Extended life-saving relief to millions affected by disasters and war.
As the world confronts complex, interconnected challenges, from climate change to emerging technologies, global solidarity is needed more than ever. This commemorative stamp is a tribute to the UN’s enduring mission and to the UAE’s commitment to building a safer, fairer and more sustainable future for all.
